CIUT Membership Fundraising Drive

Donate & support community radio... one of the last remaining radio stations that are the voice of the people in the city of Toronto! I (DJ nico) host a weekly radio show called Vinyl from the Crypt, a show dedicated to playing records from the 10,000+ vinyl library called "The Crypt". The records have been collected over the years starting from the 1950s at the University of Toronto. Listeners donate twice a year, with a $75 donation, listeners have the opportunity to host their own two hours of music. You never know what you will hear over those two hours, Saturdays 6-8pm EST.

Listen to podcasts of the previous week's show here.

Solair Chairs

I found two white Solair Chairs in someone's front yard for the taking this Friday... could not pass them up! Original one's from the 70s in good condition. The patent was bought in the last decade and production of these Canadian (manufactured in Quebec) chairs is heating up again for these garden gems!
Excerpt taken from Kate Eisen and Duncan Farnan, InAbstracto, Toronto ON
Bright and vibrant in innovation when first introduced, the Solair was designed by Montrealers Fabio Fabiano and Michelange Panzini, in 1972. Riding the wave of design energy coming out of Expo 67, and the nationalist fervour of Canada’s Centennial, the two newly minted designers were recruited by Industries Provinciales, Saint-Damien (Québec) to rework the concept of a Canadian-designed, comfortable and stylish, modern indoor and outdoor chair. Using new injection moulding plastic technology and steel framing, the chair was designed over the space of one weekend so as to meet a pressing contract deadline. Since 1989, the chair has been in continuous production and distribution by Industries Emile Lachance Ltée.
Extensively retailed throughout the 70′s the Solair was marketed across Canada and the eastern seaboard of the United States as far south as Florida. A stalwart in Eaton’s and Sears catalogues; the chair went on to become an iconic fixture of North American roadside motels and pools of the period. Lightweight and extremely comfortable, the Solair, with its simple lines and solid practicality exudes an allure that continues to speak to us about its emblematic place in Canadian culture.

The Rascals: Once Upon a Dream show in Toronto

Went to see The Rascals: Once Upon a Dream show in Toronto last night!

The musicianship was top notch for these silver foxes. No slowing down the tempo for any of the cover versions or original material. The reenactments did get cheesy but kept the show funny but balanced with their raucous performances.
